Ok, this entry is about something extremely important to me.

For those of you who don't know (this entry is public), I have a very rare, very agressive form of Ulcerative Colitis. It's potentianlly fatal. It's a daily battle for me, it affects everything I do.

The point in mentioning that is, that President Bush has a 2007 budget request that cuts $11 million from the leading institute at NIH responsible for Crohn's and Colitis research. It also completely eliminates funding for IBD epidemiology studies at the CDC. Epidemiology is the branch of medicine that studies the causes, distribution, and control of disease in populations.  It's how we first connected smoking to lung cancer and heart disease.  Two landmark epidemiology studies allowed the Surgeon General to make that causal link, and consequently enabled millions of people the world over to make the choice for better health.

I just wanted everyone to be aware of what is going on. I am not normally the kind of person who gets into politics with people, or who judges people by who they vote for. But this could directly affect me, so I would like my friends to know about it.

Well, he can't run next term cause he has already been in there for two terms. lol And this is for the 2007 budget, so in order for it NOT to pass, people have to write to their senators to tell them how they feel so they will vote against it. :)

But, its a good topic for you to talk to your dad about if you need a convo starter lol since it effects crohns patients too.
